Kangela House 4

Kangela is a fenced and guarded estate in Malongane, 12 km from the Kosi Bay border, in Mozambique. The estate is run by our management team of Annibal and Herman who is very helpful and will be able to assist with any issues or questions during your stay they operate from the Reception building in the Estate.

Should you require a transfer from the Kosi Bay border they will be able to arrange this for you too. The house sleeps 12 people and consists of the main lodge (lounge, bar, and kitchen) with one bedroom (2 beds and a substantial/adult bunk bed) and 4 private independent bedroom ensuite chalets, each sleeping 2 people (2 chalets have king-size beds and 2 units have twin beds.) All bedrooms are fitted with mozzie nets on the sliding doors and windows. Please switch off the fans when you leave the rooms.

The toilets work on a septic tank so please use accordingly. The hot water runs on a solar system. There is also an electric backup system. The bedroom below the pool area is the last on the hot water line which comes from the other end of the house so it might take a little longer for the hot water to get there. There is a beach shower attached to the tree on the landing below the pool deck. The tap is on the railing. The water in the house is just below potable; there is a small filtered drinking water tap in the prep bowl in the kitchen.

There are 2 fridges and a chest-deep freeze, 2 bar fridges, and an ice maker. Please ensure any bait put into the freezer is well sealed and discarded when you leave. The oven is electric and the hob is gas. There are a gas and a charcoal braai downstairs next to the pool.   There is no TV in the house but there is a pass given to you at the entrance gate (pre stacked onto your car windscreen as you drive in) to get into the Malongane Camp Site which has a big screen facility in the bar next to the restaurant. Several barranca’s in the village also have tvs.

There is an outside boma near the pool please do not collect wood for the fire from the forest. Wood can be bought from the village or bring your own charcoal. There are 2 red and yellow kayaks that can be used. Please rinse and return them to the racks under room 4 if you use them. Our staff at the house are Tollie (house lady) and Fransisco (house boy). They work from 7.30 am to 4.30 pm with a lunch break. They clean, make beds, carry things to the beach, and can help with food preparation but they don’t cook. Tollie works exclusively for us and must be paid R150.00 per day, including the day you arrive and the day you leave. Fransisco is shared with the house next door and must be paid R65.00 per day. If you would like to you may tip above this at your discretion, it would really be appreciated. Tollie will collect the keys from the office and open the house on the day of your arrival. The keys will stay in the house if you want to lock the main lodge (top living area).

There are no safes so we suggest you keep all valuables locked in your car. There is a circular Red Duiker Trail through the sand forest with many labeled trees. The trail starts opposite the entrance to house no 3 (next door). Snakes are fairly common in a forest environment. We suggest you keep the bedroom doors closed and be aware of them on the walkways. There are also monkeys on the estate so keep food in the pantry with the door closed and close the outside doors and windows when you leave the house.
